The village of New Pittsburg was laid out in 1829. The Methodists in New Pittsburg started meeting in people's home at around the same time the village was laid out. On May 25th, 1850 trustees John Piper, Philip & Elizabeth Heffelinger, and Elliot Piper bought a plot of land in New Pittsburg for $30. This church building was located just west of the present church. In 1892 it was decided to buy more land and to build the present church building.
